In this upcoming performance, saxophonist Jon Raskin, pianist Magda Mayas and drummer Tony Buck join forces for the first time as a trio. Jon is a founding member of the Rova Saxophone Quartet which has exploring improvisation, composition, and collaborating other musicians, poets, visual artist, theater, dance and performance for 48 years. Jon first played with Tony at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam as part of “Rova Special Sextet with Tony Buck and Michael Vatcher” in 2008. Jon Raskin became aware of Magda’s music when Tony and Magda played at “Tom’s Place” in Berkeley California in 2010 & 2011 and was the perfect choice to perform Jon’s prepared piano score for dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 for Carla Harryman’s sound piece “Occupying Theodor W. Adorno’s ‘On Music and New Music’: A Re-Performance”.
