Step into the shadowed, alchemical realm of Coil, the avant-garde pioneers whose music transcended and delved deep into the mysticism of sound, ritual, and emotional landscapes.

On November 13th, CINTH and Morphine Raum invites you to an atmospheric evening that unveils long-hidden materials from the band’s cryptic archive, revealing unseen footage from „Colour Sound Oblivion“ , unfinished compositions, and fragments of their artistic universe.

This event is particularly significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of Jhonn Balance’s tragic passing on November 13th, 2004. His death, under deeply sorrowful circumstances, marked the end of an era for Coil, but his presence continues to haunt and shape the band’s legacy. On this poignant date, we reflect on his profound influence, not only within the world of Coil, but in the realm of experimental music at large.

This screening will guide you through the enigmatic, otherworldly sonic landscapes of Coil, a band whose art pushed the boundaries of music, performance, and visual storytelling. Obscure, experimental, and undeniably haunting, the film offers a kaleidoscopic journey into the uncharted territories of their creative spirit. It is a cinematic tapestry woven from the fragile remnants of their exploration of the esoteric, the occult, and the unknown.

Following the screening, we are delighted to present a special interview with Drew McDowall, recorded during his visit to Morphine Raum while he was touring with his latest solo work, A Thread, Silvered and Trembling.

In this candid conversation, McDowall reflects on his journey through Coil’s complex, boundary-pushing legacy, and shares his thoughts on the delicate threads between his personal artistry and the band’s collective vision. The interview delves into the
philosophical, spiritual, and sonic explorations that shape McDowall’s work—bridging the past and present of an artist whose influence continues to resonate across multiple generations of avant-garde music lovers
