ⵉⵣⵓⵔⴰⵏ Izouran is a band based in Amazer (South Morocco) and Berlin (East Germany). It was born from the encounter between multi-instrumentalist Hicham Ounamir and percussionist Borys Slowikowski. Together with violinist Penelope Gkika, percussionist Evi Filippou and bassist Adam Goodwin they make music rooted in Amazigh pop. They see tradition as a radical artistic practice in itself - driven by relationality and care, based in sustainability and synergy. Inspired by lo-fi Moroccan recordings and DIY rock, Izouran aims to integrate dirt and jewels.

☛ Izouran was born across political borders between North of Africa and Festung Europe.
Last week we received the news that Hicham’s visa got rejected and he cannot participate in-person in our concert tour in Germany, as well as two festivals in Poland. On 26th of June Izouran will play music for you, with one of the members participating remotely - and with precious support of wonderful guimbri player Simo Ait Harma.

☛ We will also be joined by Dorina Achelaritei - journalist, human rights activist and member of Medirerranea Berlin. She will talk about the political situation in Morocco and the EU border externalization regime.

  • In the concert you will have the possibility to support creation of an independent music studio and residency space in Hicham’s village Amazer.
We are collecting funds as well as second-hand equipment.

Project funded by Musikfonds e. V. by means of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM)
